What Equipment Do We Use At IBX Fitness?
At IBX Fitness, where strength and cardio flow seamlessly together you will find that our use of equipment can be used in all 3 of our training components: Iron Flow, Strength & Cardio. Our 6 pieces of equipment are: Torpedo's, Slam Balls, Boxes, Resistance Bands, Speed Ropes and Mats. In our 50 minute classes we can use up to 3 or 4 of these different training apparatuses to assist our members in their workout. Each piece of equipment varies in it's utilization. For example, our Torpedo's are used for Iron Flow + Strength while our Speed Ropes are used for Cardio, Resistance Bands are used in Strength but equipment like Slam Balls, Boxes and Mats can vary across all of our class components. Let's take a look at what each piece has to offer us, here at IBX Fitness.
Torpedos
Our signature strength equipment is our Torpedo. They are a blend between a dumbbell, barbell and kettlebell. Our torpedo's range from 10lbs to 50lbs in an added 5lb increment. You can either use one or two torpedo's in your workouts depending on the exercises. There is room for scaling up or down with the torpedo's depending weight size and how many torpedo's you use in an exercise. We use our Torpedo's during our Iron Flow & Strength portion of classes. *The torpedo does not come in a size below 10lbs and for that reason we do have 5lb dumbbells at our gym.
Speed Ropes
They look like jump ropes, but are made out of more lightweight materials that make them move more efficiently and fast. Speed Ropes have less resistance than regular jump ropes and are aimed to improve the athletes coordination and timing. The goal when using them is to improve your stamina and agility through gradually speeding up at your own pace. You will use speed ropes in the Cardio portion of our classes.
Slam Balls
Slam Balls are versatile pieces of equipment that add resistance and weight to any exercise. Here at IBX Fitness we have Slam Balls that range from 5lbs to 40lbs in 5lb increments. We use Slam Balls in any of our 3 training components of our group class. Depending on what the movement may be will determine which size Slam Ball you will need. In our Iron Flow portion of class we may use the Slam Ball instead of a Torpedo. During the Strength portion of class we may use the ball as a balancing tool to find stability from an instable place and it can be also used for what it's created for as Slam Ball. Lastly, during Cardio we may use the ball as a prop to jump over or as a center point to move in a circular motion around.
Resistance Bands
We use Resistance Bands at IBX Fitness mostly in our Strength portion of class. They are a great tool for isolating muscle groups and recruiting the stabilizer muscles. This group of muscles is significant because they support our larger muscles and joints when we move, and help reduce the risk of injury when doing exercises with them. At our gym the Resistance Bands are tubular and vary in resistance levels from light to heavy. Using bands instead of weights gives us a variety of movements we can do in our classes. We may use them to do Banded Bicep Curls, Squat Walks or Clams during our Strength Portion of our classes. The Resistance Bands are great pieces of equipment to have because you utilize a full body workout with them even during isolations.
Boxes
Boxes aren't just for box jumps! Here at IBX Fitness we use them in a variety of ways during the 3 components of our classes. The boxes can be scaled up or down during a workout. The lowest height of our boxes is 20inches, then builds to 24inches and then lastly our max height is at 30inches. Depending on what movements are given in a workout you can flip the box to it's best height for you. The box is a great tool for step-ups and box jumps which gives you a great lower body plus core workout. We also use our boxes to do Bulgarian Split Squats, Single Leg Squats, Triceps Dips and Seated Runs plus many more exercises. With a versatile piece of equipment like the Box you are bound to push yourself to great heights once or twice a week when we add them into the mix.
Mats
Mats are used in a variety of our classes. They are an important part of a class that supports exercises that need a softer landing base for example; exercises based on the knees, forearms or lying on your back (supine). The cushion from the Mat gives support to the individual who may have need it due to pain or discomfort. Mats are also slip free which supports in injury prevention. Mats are vital part of our workouts and we may second guess there need as equipment we learn quickly when we don't grab one the comfort they can bring to our bones, joints and bodies.
Clean Equipment
At the end of each class at IBX Fitness you will receive from your coach 2-3 cleansing wipes to clean your equipment and to store properly. This is an important part of safety and cleanliness at our gym that we take very seriously. With 14 classes a week being held at IBX, we find it best to keep our equipment clean and ready for each of class.
